RELOAD – Lady and the Traffic

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2Corinthians 10:5 NIV)

I’ve been thinking a lot about that verse this week. I think that it is a key verse in the attempt to control the things that we think about. The phrase ‘take captive’ jumps out at me and makes me think a little more deeply about those simple two words.

Growing up we had a dog named Lady… which was a joke because she was NOTHING like a lady. She was CRAZY! She was an outdoor dog and the ‘second’ she got off her leash she headed in only one direction… towards the highway to chase after cars. She died of old age not because she was extremely successful at avoiding traffic… but because we were able to keep her on a leash for ‘most’ of her life.

I think that the same can be said about our thought life. It’s not about where we can let our minds go… because there is all sorts of ‘traffic’ out there that can harm us. But rather it is about finding ways to keep our minds ‘captive’.

So if you’re struggling with where your minds go… then put it on a leash. Don’t entertain where it wants to go. Make sure that there are ‘restrictions’ and ‘limits’ to where you often let your mind wander (filters, access, passwords, accountability, etc).

This week my prayer is that you will not give into where your mind wants to go. Believe me, if Lady ever caught what she was longing for, she’d be dead. My prayer is that the same won’t happen to you.

At least that’s how I see it,

Craig
